The interrupted line shows the distribution of phalanges of small Caprinae from Bir-es-Safadi ( Capra hircus and Ovis ones) . The existence of two species of large Caprinae is clear. Small Caprinae only appear in Munhata 2.

The first point to be noticed is the decrease in frequency of the cervids; whereas they are very plentiful in the Natufian of Aϊn Mallaha, they are not found in Munhata 2. This decrease is so marked that we cannot just infer less emphasis on hunting; what must have occurred was a general decrease of cervids in Palestine (they are found again on later sites, but are always few) probably due to the disappearance of forest. We cannot argue in the same way about the gazelle which maintained its important position, especially at Munhata, the southernmost site and the one which is therefore closest to the semi-arid zone.
